Who you are agreeing with
Kin is made by Samsonov Stepan Dmitrievich, an individual developer resident in the Russian Federation. Installing or using Kin means you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the app.

Your licence to use Kin
Kin is distributed through the App Store, so Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies to your copy of the app. These terms sit on top of it and cover the service behind the app — the account, the synchronisation, the shared groups. Where the two genuinely conflict about the app itself, Apple’s agreement wins.
Within that, you get a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use Kin on devices you own or control, for as long as you follow these terms.
Your account
You can use Kin without an account. An account exists so that your ledger can reach your other devices and so that you can share a group with someone.
You are responsible for whatever can open your account: your email inbox, your Apple ID, your Google account. Tell us if you think someone else has got in. One account is meant for one person; do not hand your account to somebody else.
What Kin is not
Kin is a notebook, not a financial institution. It holds no money, moves no money and touches no payment system. It is not a bank, not a payment service, not a broker, and not a financial, tax, accounting or legal adviser. Nothing in the app is advice.
Balances, budgets, analytics and exchange-rate conversions are arithmetic over what you and the people in your groups typed in. They can be wrong because the input was wrong. Check anything that matters against your bank.
A debt shown in a shared group is a record of what the participants entered about a shared expense. It is bookkeeping between you, not a loan agreement, and Kin is not a party to it, does not enforce it and does not guarantee that anyone will pay.
Your content
What you record in Kin stays yours. You grant us only the permission the service technically needs: to store your data, copy it between your devices, and show the parts you put in a shared group to the other members of that group. Nothing more, and nothing outside that.
You are responsible for what you put in. Do not upload anything unlawful, and do not upload other people’s personal data that you have no right to share — think about that before you add someone’s name, or photograph a receipt with their details on it.
Availability and price
Kin is currently free. The service is provided as it is, with no promise of uptime. It is run by one person: it can go down, it can be changed, and features can be withdrawn. If the service is ever discontinued we will give reasonable notice by email and a way to export your data.
Your ledger also lives on your phone, which is the copy that survives an outage.
Acceptable use
Do not try to reach data that is not yours, do not attack or overload the service, do not automate calls to the API beyond what the app itself does, and do not reverse engineer the app further than the law permits regardless of what it says here. Do not use Kin to break the law.
Ending it
You can stop at any time: delete the app, or delete your account — see the Privacy Policy for how.
We may suspend or close an account that abuses the service or these terms. Where the circumstances allow it, we will say why first.
No warranty
To the fullest extent the law allows, Kin is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind — no warranty of merchantability, of fitness for a particular purpose, of accuracy, or of uninterrupted operation.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential loss, for lost profits, or for loss of data, arising out of your use of Kin. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited — including liability for death, personal injury, fraud, or intent and gross negligence.
Because Kin is free, our aggregate liability to you is limited to what you have paid for it, which is nothing.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of the Russian Federation. If you use Kin as a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protections that the law of your own country of residence gives you and that cannot be set aside by agreement.
Changes
We may change these terms. The date at the top will change, and if the change matters we will tell you by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use Kin after that means you accept the new terms.
